Sweet wine made from semi-dried grapes. The traditional version of Montefalco Sagrantino. The name derives from the Latin “sacer”: a holy wine destined for consumption during the Christian festivals.

Vineyard
Molino dell’Attone (0.50 hectares). Planted in 1990. Altitude of 400 m.a.s.l. Easterly facing exposure, with rows oriented according to the slope. Plant spacing of 2.8 meters x 1.0 meters (3571 vines / hectare). Soil from the Miocene period and of marine origin, characterised by the presence of marl and rich in minerals such as phyllosilicates, quartz and feldspar.
Harvest
Generally at the end of October.
Vinification
After sorting the grapes, the maceration tanks are filled by gravity feed. Maceration on the skins for 40 days.
Ageing
In 5-hectolitre oak barrels for 40 months; blending; bottle aged for one year.
Tasting Notes
Intense ruby red colour. Extreme complexity and elegance to the nose. Typically characterised by notes of fruit and aromatic herbs, where citrus, cherry, wild berries, mint and oregano stand out. On the palate it is a very fine and structured wine, with a decisive and integrated tannin. Wine that is best expressed with a long bottle ageing.

Accompanies grilled and roasted meats, braised or stewed red meats, game and mature hard cheeses.
Best period for drinking
Montefalco Sagrantino generally reaches full maturity 10-15 years after the harvest and is able to refine in the bottle for a further 30 years.
